dear nation,
it occurs to me that we need a champion in our media. we need a high-profile, notably non-partisan anchor-type who will take it upon him/herself to keep track of the daily BS of the campaign trail. we need a tough, intelligent person with the juevos to publicly call out both candidates and say, "there IS NO clean coal. despite the fact that they hugely subsidized the DNC and RNC, you simply have to admit that coal is destructive and filthy." or to step up to john mccain and tell him that palin was only "command in chief" of the alaska national guard while they were actually in the state, and that they were the smallest brigade in the nation. and that alaska's proximity to russia does not give her "foreign policy" experience. hmmm. we need someone who will compare tax programs, social programs, and energy policies. i confess, i long for such a brave soul not because i fear that bad ol' barack will tar and feather poor oooooooold mr. mccain, but because the republican smear machine is so good at the politics of divisiveness and flat out lying. and i DO want the obama-biden ticket slapped when they make mistakes or LIE. we need honest leaders with transparent funding sources. let the closed door remain the legacy of the bush administration. to that end, please brainstorm with me over who would make a decent defender of the nation. as good as they are, stewart and colbert are seldom taken seriously. i had hopes of lehrer, but as he is moderating the debates, i doubt he'd take the job. think with me, friends, and let us together appoint a champion of Truth, Justice, and the American Way. (where is clark kent when you need him?!?)

That was very well written, thank you for sending it to me. I have to say that I appreciate the effort put forth in being fair. So, I'm going to respond in the fairest way I can: I definitely agree with you that we have a problem right now with our media being neither fair nor balanced. I think Rush got it right when he said that 2008 is the year that journalism officially died. It's your right as an American to state your opinions, but if you call yourself a journalist while doing so, you begin to destroy the credibility of the profession. The real shame of it is that the people that are truly the most fair and balanced members of the media today are villified as tools of the evil conservative agenda. However, I should point out that the most powerful media moguls in America today (including TimeWarner) are some of the biggest contributors to the Demmocratic party. So, I have to say, that when all bias is truly set aside, it's hard to deny that the majority of mainstream media is decidedly liberal. Which makes it easy to understand why they would opt to ignore major issues about the Obama bin Biden (sorry I just think that's too clever) ticket, like for instance his association with the known terrorist William Ayers, or his extreme socialist vision for America that's going to bottom out our economy, or his overwhelming lack of executive or foreign relations experience. I must interject here and say that becuase the size of the Alaska National Guard isn't as large as large as say, California (but most definitely isn't smaller than Delaware's), this does not in any way negate the fact that she has very coveted executive experience that the other ticket simply does not have, no matter how they, and the media, attempt to spin it. You have to admit though, that not only is she an amazingly brilliant and strong-willed woman, that it is truly baffling to see the other ticket's presidential candidate going after the other guy's vice-presidential candidate. Signs of the times, I suppose. Anyhow, to answer your original question as to whom I think would serve as a good representation of 'fair and balanced,' I believe that right now we have a few decent people out there that are not touting their own personal convictions, but are honestly examining both tickets and are offering a balanced view of each. They are as follows: Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, and Glenn Beck. I'm sure this might open a debate, and if so, I'll be more than happy to discuss my reasoning further. I won't do it here though, because my response has been more than long enough :)

i was rather hoping for one of the honorable old gents for whom we all have a great deal of respect. walter cronkite... edward murrow... that sort. i can't say as i hold any respect for hannity, coombs, or especially o'reilly. anyone who shouts over and uses obscenities at their guests is pretty much off my list. sidenote: amy goodman is off the list, too, because she is notably partisan. no screamers, no fox news, and no radical lefties.
